God Is Holy
Last Sunday’s sermon was preached by Brother Kevin on “God Wants To Give Revival” (1 John 2 : 12 - 17). The sermon and the whole service can be watched on our WIC YouTube Channel:
Intro
- Why do we come to worship God?
- When we worship God, we have to scknowledge his Godliness and Holiness.
- God is the definition of Holy. You cannot have Holiness without God.
Holiness vs Sin
- From the moment of original sin, we have been unworthy to stand in Gods presence.
- Romans 6:23 "The wages of sin is death".
- Sin cannot exist in the presence of God, and as carriers of sin we are condemned to death in His presence.
Jesus the High Priest
- In the temple on priests were allowed into the Holy place, only High Priests into the Holy of Holies.
- Once a year the High Priest represented the people and carried their sin to seek atonement.
- If he was not properly cleansed, he would die in Gods presence.
- Hebrews 8:1-2 NIV
[1] Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, [2] and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by a mere human being.
- When Jesus came to earth, it was God descending to our level to prepare us. When He died, we were elvated to Gods level by the blood of Christ.
- By virtue of our High Priest, we are now able to enter the Holy of Holies.
We Stand on Holy Ground
- Just like Moses, when we enter His presence, we stand on Holy Ground.
- If we had a meeting with the President of Poland, we would spend weeks preparing ourselves.
- How much more should we prepare ourselves when we come to meet with God?
- When Jesus died, the rules didnt change. God is STILL Holy, and that Holiness DEMANDS a reaction.
- Are we reacting as befits a Holy God?
