Breaking Free!
Last Sunday’s sermon was preached by Brother Kevin on “Breaking
Free!” (Luke 10:38-42). The sermon and the
whole service can be watched on our WIC YouTube Channel
Introduction
- The early church was powerful
- Chains could not bind the movement
- That power seems to be diluted today
- We needbto understand why sobthat we too can break free of our chains
1) We must MAKE prayer
- Acts 12:5: "Peter therefore was kept in prison, but prayer was made earnestly of the church unto God for him."- They did not SAY prayer, they MADE prayer
- To make is to construct, to build brick by brick
- When we pray we neednto pour who we are into our prayers. Each brick is a piece of us.
- We MAKE prayer like we MAKE conversation, it is two way communication.
- God also puts His bricks into the prayer, making it complete.
2) We must LIVE in the Word
- John 1:1: " In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God".- If Jesus is the Word then we must live lives that are entrenched His Word.
- When we know scripture, we have a well of knowledge and inspiration to draw from.
- Whatever we face is in has an answer in Scripture - knowing this fuels us.
- We must also sit at his feet and listen like Mary.
- We come to church to hear the Word God has prepared for us individually.
- God inspires us through His Word, we owe itnto ourselves to be receptive.
3) We must find JOY in PERSEVERANCE
- James 1:2-4 NIV[2] Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, [3] because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. [4] Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
- Life is reality and we are not exempt from difficulty.
- We must learn to smile in our trials because this is a chance for us to see God at work.
- We must learn to shed worry, and live lives in complete reliance on God.
- James 3 talks about taming the tongue.
- We must learn to confess our freedom from the devil.
- Do not confess to our chains, but confess to the freedom we have that was purchased by the blood of Jesus.
Summary
- God does not want us to live a life in chains - to be saddled with worry and doubt.- Instead we should live each day in freedom of mind and spirit.
- We must learn to only have 1 goal each day - to follow Jesus.
- When we learn to make prayer, live in the Word and smile through our trials, we will truly understand what it means to break free.
