Called By Name

Last Sunday’s sermon was preached by Brother Kevin on “Called By Name” (Isaiah 43:1 and Psalm 139:13-16). The sermon and the whole service can be watched on our WIC YouTube Channel. Here are the points that Kevin made:


Let us study God's love for us in 1 simple verse taken from Isaiah 43:1.

- God's Word is alive. The same scripture that we browsed past so many time - even comitted to memory - can have new deep and profound meanings when God uses it to speak to us.
- In The Chosen, Jesus uses this verse which Mary Magdelene knew from childhood to pierce through her suffering.
 - When God speaks those same words to us, the context changes.

God Made Us Perfect
- God says He created and formed us.
- He created us with a plan and a purpose. We are not here by accident - rather He sees us and has a specific purpose for us.
- In that same way He formed us to His specifications.
- Every thread of our being was carefully crafted by Him - knit together as David so beautifully sings in his Psalm.
- When we feel less than, remember that in God's eyes we are perfect - He doesn't make mistakes.

He Redeemed Us
- Sin is what keeps us from God.
- Even though Jesus washed away our sins, we still use sin as the excuse that stops us from building our relationship with Him.
- God tells us that even in our deepest and most shameful moments, He is there. Watching us and forgiving us.

He Has Called Us
- He calls us individually by name, casting aside all the other names and labels that have attached themselves to us.
- He sees through all that and wants us to come to Him.
- In that moment, we become Israel and Judah, called to have a relationship with the God who made us perfect and redeemed us.

We Are His
- When we answer His call, he claims us.
- No power of principality can stand against Him, we are embraced in His loving arms and are protected by Him.
- When all else fails and we feel overwhelmed, remember His words, "You. Are. Mine."

God Is Worthy

Last Sunday’s sermon was preached by Pastor Harry on “God Is Worthy” (Malachi 1:6-12) . We’ve put good stewardship into practice in recent years, by collecting money for flood victims, for example. This year we’ll be making two church collections available for Christmas parcels for teenagers living in deprived conditions. You might think: what is stewardship? Well, think of a stewardess – she’s there to serve you on a plane. She might be a good or bad stewardess, but she’s supposed to serve you, on behalf of an airline. So if you think she’s bad, you might think the airline is bad too, and never travel with it again.
