Living By The Spirits Power

Last Sunday’s sermon was preached by Pastor Harry on “Living By The Spirits Power” (Galatians 5:16 - 26). The sermon and the whole service can be watched on our WIC YouTube Channel:

Pastor Harry’s sermon from Galatians 5:16–26 centers on what it truly means to “live by the Spirit’s power” in the everyday life of a believer. He begins by contrasting life in the flesh with life in the Spirit, showing that the Christian battle is not primarily against external circumstances but against the old nature that resists God. The “acts of the flesh” are not just scandalous sins but also socially acceptable attitudes—like envy, selfish ambition, and divisions—that quietly destroy fellowship and witness when left unchecked.

He explains that the Christian life is not about trying harder in our own strength but about learning to walk in step with the Holy Spirit, who produces inner change that no rule-keeping can create. Using the “fruit of the Spirit” as a portrait of Christlike character, he emphasizes that this fruit grows as we stay connected to Christ through prayer, Scripture, and obedience in the small choices of daily life. Rather than chasing spectacular experiences, believers are called to consistent surrender—crucifying the flesh with its passions and desires and saying a practical “yes” to the Spirit in relationships, work, and suffering.

Pastor Harry underlines that this is both a gift and a calling: the Spirit has already been given to every true Christian, but we must choose to yield, to listen, and to follow His prompting. Living by the Spirit’s power, then, means allowing God’s life to shape our reactions, our priorities, and our loves so that the character of Jesus becomes visible in us, both individually and as a church community.
