You Have To Be Like A Child

Last Sunday’s sermon was preached by Sister Thais with the title “You Have To Be Like A Child” (Luke 18:15-17). The sermon and the whole service can be watched on our WIC YouTube Channel.

Sermon Summary — "You Have to Be Like a Child" Preached by Sister Ty | Warsaw International Church | May 31, 2026 Scripture: Luke 18:15–17

Core Message Jesus said the kingdom of God belongs to those who receive it like a little child. Sister Ty unpacked what that actually looks like for adults — not just being innocent or cute, but genuinely adopting the posture and character of a child toward God as Father.

Key Points

  • Dependence — Children rely entirely on their parents. We need to cut our roots of self-sufficiency and become dependent on God.
  • Hunger & Thirst — Kids ask for food and water constantly. We should be the same with God — seeking him daily, not just at monthly communion (John 6, John 4).
  • Provision — A good father clothes and provides for his kids (Luke 12). God is that father; we can trust his provision when we fully surrender.
  • Persistent prayer — Kids are relentless when they want something. We should be that persistent in prayer — but with right motives (Matthew 7, James 4). Time in prayer transforms our desires to align with God's will.
  • Inviting God into everything — Children want their parents present even during play. We should invite God into every part of life, not just "church moments."
  • First love — Kids love their parents for who they are, not what they give. We often want "Jesus and something else" — a good marriage, health, success. He wants to be our first and only love.
  • Two kinds of children (Greek) — She drew a distinction between teknon (little babies, belonging to God's family) and huios (mature sons, guided by the Spirit, accessing the full inheritance). God wants us to grow from teknon to huios — taking on his character, enduring discipline, and walking in purpose (Romans 8, Hebrews 12).
  • Healing from father wounds — She closed with a tender appeal: many of us walk "lame" in the kingdom because of wounds from earthly fathers — rejection, abandonment, abuse, harsh words. Today is a day to lean on the Father's chest and let him heal those wounds so we can truly receive our inheritance as his children.
