The Kingdom Of Heaven

Last Sunday’s sermon was preached by Brother Sean with the title “The Kingdom Of Heaven” (Luke 16:19-31). The sermon and the whole service can be watched on our WIC YouTube Channel.

Part 1 — Hell: The Choice

1. What is Hell?

·       Hell as the ultimate consequence of rebellion against God

·       Hell is metaphorical – John Blanchard

·       The Highest Good – Cicero

·       Sin is loving something more than God

·       The rich man dies but does not repent – Clay Jones, Darell Brock

Key texts:

·       Luke 16:14

·       Rev 16; 9, 16;11

·       Matthew 25:41, 46

·       Revelation 20:10–15

Part 2 — Heaven: The Hope of God's Kingdom

What is Heaven?

·       Heaven is fundamentally God's presence and God's dwelling.

·       Heaven is communal. It is not about you.

·       The biblical hope ultimately points beyond simply going to heaven, towards resurrection and renewed creation.

Key texts:

·       Romans 14:17

·       Matthew 5

·       Luke 11:20 Jesus miracles

·       The Kingdom is already here in Christ and in the lives of those who submit to God's reign.

·       The life of heaven begins to be experienced in us when God's reign takes hold of us.

·       And then it becomes visible in how we live—how we love people, forgive, serve, show mercy, pursue righteousness, and participate in God's work.
